Brewlab students have this years produced 2 special beers for this years festival
Brewlab is a leading provider of training and analysis services for the international brewing industry, based in purpose built premises on the banks of the river Wear in Sunderland.
The range of training courses Brewlab offers are relevant to the first time brewer, through to professionals who are seeking to keep their skills and knowledge updated.
Brewlab courses are focused on providing the optimum blend of up to date practical and theoretical skills. Sections of training take place in regional craft breweries where students gain real hands on experience. We have our own modern 3.5 barrel brewery with a 100 litre trial kit. We also have our own kegging and bottling facilities.
Our 9 week British Brewing Technology course and our 3 week Practical Brewing course are endorsed with the Quality Mark from ONE Awards.
One Awards is a Quality Assurance and Accreditation organisation with over 20 years’ experience of formally recognising training and learning.
In addition Brewlab encourages our students to sit the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) professional examinations on completion of our courses. Initially the General Certificate in Brewing and with extra tuition the Diploma in Brewing.
Experienced visiting lecturers are engaged to teach specialist technical subjects as well as finance and marketing.
Optional cost effective self catering accommodation is available at the University of Sunderland for the 9 week and 3 week courses.
For both these courses some understanding of the brewing process, along with basic maths and chemistry, would be beneficial but not essential.
Many of our past students have successfully established their own breweries and others are employed in breweries of all different sizes around the world.
