Tynedale RFC played
their first match against Elswick (now Northern) at Hexham on
30th December 1876 (Tynedale won by a goal and two tries to
nil). They celebrated 125 years of continuous rugby in 2002.
Notable events in their history include:

1880 - Tynedale became one of the
six founder members of the Northumberland Rugby Union.
n
1894 - Tynedale hosted the first
ever seven-a-side tournament in England.
n
1976 - Moved from Dene Park, Hexham
to present ground.
n
2000 - After league rugby began in
1987 Tynedale remained in Thwaites North Division One for 13
years until they emphatically gained promotion in season
1999-2000, winning all 22 league matches and setting a new
league record.
n
2001 -
Tynedale appear in the National League Division 3 North but Foot
and Mouth Disease devastates Northumberland and Tynedale's first
season in the National Leagues ends in early February. Girls'
Rugby introduced.

2002 –
2004. The club is increasingly successful across all senior
teams. Youth rugby grows and numbers exceed 350 for the first
time.
n
2005 -
Tynedale's ground is under 8 feet of flood water. The social end
of the clubhouse is out of action for almost 4 months and 3
portakabins are used as temporary replacement.
Tynedale's
First XV, the Raiders, and the Grasshoppers all win their
respective Northumberland Cup competitions.
n
2006 -
Tynedale fare well in the league and become promotion
contenders.
n
2007 -
A promotion play off against Kent side Westcombe Park ends in
disappointment.
n
2008 -
Promotion to National Division 2 is secured. Tynedale now travel
to teams as far as Cornwall! Clubhouse and changing room
facilities are improved to provide disabled access and Junior
Football.
Tynedale Cup
History:
Tynedale have
appeared in 28 Northumberland Senior Cup Finals, winning the cup
on 15 occasions.
Tynedale have
reached the fourth round of the National Knock-Out Cup on
several occasions with some notable scalps from higher national
leagues including London Scottish, Wakefield and Otley.
