Our main beneficiaries for 2010 are ...
... The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation helps experts within the NHS, in collaboration with scientists at Newcastle University, to develop new anti-cancer drug treatments. Through generous support, the charity has already equipped the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, which was constructed by the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. It has also funded two specialist research posts, a doctor and a nurse. But there is still so much more which can be achieved through raising additional funds. For more information go to www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk

... Brave Hearts of the North East

Brave Hearts was set up to recognize the bravery and courage of very ill or handicapped children. The charity does this by giving awards (the Brave Hearts Crystal) and providing special holidays, toys, computers and other equipment.

Since its inception, Brave Hearts has assisted 83 children, all of whom have shown the most incredible courage in battling to overcome illness, handicap, or other adversities. Each year between 5 and 10 awards are made. However, the charity often has difficulty in getting the most deserving cases brought to its attention. If you know of any child whom you think merits recognition in this way, please contact Brave Hearts.

  ... The Alzheimer's Society

This is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them. There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to one million by 2025.

The Society works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of its 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves.

The Society campaigns and lobbies to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. It has a research programme to improve our knowledge of dementia and its treatment - and ultimately to find a cure. For more information go to www.alzheimers.org.uk

... and Tynedale RFC Sports Related Projects

Much needed funds raised by the Beer Festival have enabled Tynedale Rugby Club to develop sporting opportunities for the local community and the facilities at Tynedale Park. There are now over 400 boys and girls playing tag and contact rugby. As a result, the senior teams are flourishing with increasing numbers coming through the club's junior and youth system. The link with Corbridge United Junior Football club is ongoing and proving very successful. Other sports are also actively encouraged, for example a regional volleyball tournament was held last summer at Tynedale Park.
